The Friday Five, 8/7/26: 5 things I've been up to this week

Well, it's somehow August, and I'm in my feels about Baby K turning one in about a week. This is a busy month, too—we go to Indiana next weekend for a wedding, then the weekend after that we are having a small get-together for her birthday. Unrelated, I'm seeing the new Spider-Man movie today, which I'm excited about, but that means I have daycare drop-off instead of pickup.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Getting work samples for my job. As a perk of my job (snack + candy editor), I get samples pretty frequently, and one of those this week happened to be a Crumbl delivery of its weekly flavors. This week the theme was soda shop flavors (see above), and my favorite was that chocolate/vanilla swirl one in the middle; it was a Diet Cola Nilla wafer cookie.
  2. Getting my Crohn's infusion. And my car didn't conk out on the ride home this time, thank God (last time, in early June, that's when my car stopped working and I had to wait for a tow truck in Southfield). It's never fun being poked, but I don't mind the uninterrupted iPad time.
  3. Watching TV shows. I've been continuing to watch Married at First Sight, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, and Lucky this week. I also started Furious, on Hulu, with Emmy Rossum, and it's a really good serial killer drama—there are only four episodes out right now, I believe, with more releasing weekly. I'm behind on this week's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? but maybe I'll have time today to watch it, as well as Trying, which I haven't had time to watch. Ted Lasso is back this week, too, which I'm super excited about, but I watch that show with my husband, so we probably won't have time for a while to watch, unfortunately. I also started and binged The Hawk, on Netflix, which was a lot of fun, with Will Ferrell, although it reminded me a lot of Stick, from AppleTV (and weirdly enough, Luke Wilson is in The Hawk and Owen Wilson was in Stick).
  4. Hanging out with my parents. They came over Sunday, and we spent a bit of time outside with Baby K, as it was a nice day out. We may see them again this weekend, as well.
  5. Winding down pumping. I've now been pumping for a YEAR, and soon enough Baby K will be drinking cow's milk instead of mostly formula (I'm an underproducer), so I've decided it's time to wind down. I won't miss being tied to the pump every two hours, but it's ben hard deciding which pumps to drop and when; at one point I was pumping 5-7 times a day, right now I'm down to three pumps (when I wake up, again around 9:30am for power pumping, and then 6pm or 7pm before bed). Next week or perhaps tomorrow I'll drop the 9:30am pump ... I'm just hoping I don't get mastitis or anything like that. The goal is to be done by August 23, because August 24 I have a work trip and I don't want to pack ice packs and all my equipment, although I'll bring a manual pump JUST in case I need relief.
