The Friday Five, 9/4/26: 5 things I've been up to this week

This might be a shorter Friday Five today—daycare is closed due to a power outage, so I'm writing this while Baby K and I scarf down some breakfast. She has a doctor's appointment today, so I took off work anyway for the long weekend, but I was hoping to relax a bit until 5pm ...

Domino's Farms, Ann Arbor

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Birthday party at Domino's Farms, Ann Arbor. I had heard of this place but never been, and Baby K got invited to a 4-year-old's birthday party there (her parents are close friends—her dad actually got ordained and was the "minister" at our wedding two years ago). We almost didn't make it, because my husband was a little under the weather, but my mother-in-law was in town until that day and offered to go with (always good to have a second pair of hands, with a baby). Baby K got to see some farm animals close up, and also go on a tractor ride, which was fun.
  2. Watching TV shows. I didn't know there was a new season of Chad Powers out until I saw it on Hulu yesterday, and it's only six half-hour episodes, so I binged it all—it wasn't quite as funny as season one but it was still really good. Love is Blind UK is back and I'm hoping to watch a little of that at some point, and I watched the season finale episode of Furious, also on Hulu. I thought The Shards season finale was this week but apparently it was the penultimate episode, and it finishes up next week. I'd also like to watch today/yesterday's Stuarts Fails to Save the Universe, as I've been enjoying that recently.
  3. Sheltering in the basement. So this was a first: yesterday, the sirens went off around or 10a or 11a and it turned out to be for a T-storm warning—I didn't know my city did that, but apparently if winds are 70 mph or larger, they do. Fast-forward to 3:30pm, when I had a work meeting, and I was about ten minutes into it—I was asked to be on a podcast, and it was an intro meeting for that—and both my personal and my work phones started shrieking a loud sound. Turns out it was a tornado warning, so I told my contact I had to go shelter in the basement (and the AI summary after said that, which was kinda funny). One of my friends saw the funnel near Southfield yesterday, so I think I made the right choice.
  4. Getting delivery. We got Noori a few days ago—ironically, I eat more Noori chicken now than I did when I lived in Clawson, aka a five-minute drive away—and we got La Marsa last night, which is always tasty. I'm hoping to get takeout from The Great Greek today if they have power, after Baby K's doctor's appointment, too.
  5. Making a charcuterie board. A friend invited me to her Practical Magic viewing party, since the sequel is coming to theaters soon, and everyone has been asked to bring a charcuterie board. She suggested I do a dessert one, since I have so many candy samples from work, so I put together one last night; I think it came out pretty well, so I hope the other attendees like it. If I remember, I'll try to post a picture of it in next week's Friday Five. Related, re: work samples—Crumbl delivered to us again this week, and it was Minecraft-themed (see below), which was fun.
