The Friday Five, 11/6/26: 5 things I've been up to this week

Somehow it's already November, and we've had really good weather up until today, but the high today is going to be 42 ... I'm not ready for winter just yet.

What I've been up to the past two weeks:
  1. Got a haircut. Probably not a big deal to some, but my last haircut was in June 2025, aka two months before Baby K was born ... my hair was getting Rapunzel-like, LOL (aka really long), though, so it was definitely time. My hairdresser cut enough off that I ended up donating to Maggie's Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan, which is based in St. Clair Shores, and I mailed my hair to them, which was a new experience for me. I got a little more cut off than I wish I did, but it's nice to have shorter hair again.
  2. Getting takeout and delivery. We had The Great Greek about two weeks ago, and since then we've had some Noori DoorDash, plus Indian food on Halloween at a friend's house. Also House of Falafel pickup through a Yelp Detroit event, which is always tasty.
  3. Halloween. Last year, Baby K was about two months old, and we stayed home and gave out candy ... but our record for max trick-or-treaters in this house is literally eight, so this year, we decided to go to South Lyon to hang out with friends, since their neighborhood is super busy on Halloween usually. This year, I dressed Baby K as Winnie the Pooh, from an Amazon costume, although she hates hats so she was NOT liking the Pooh hat, for the most part, LOL, until it got cold out. Overall it was a lot of fun, and definitely more lively than it is on our street.
  4. Daycare Halloween parade. On this day, Baby K decided to get up at 4:45am and not go back to sleep ... I dropped her at daycare at 7am, and I came back at 10:30am for the Halloween parade. She's a bit too young (almost 15M now) to know what was going on, but they put her in a little cart of sorts with the kids who don't walk as much, and the older kids walked around. A few parents dressed up in costumes, too, which was fun. 
  5. Watching TV shows. I'm caught up on Love is Blind, which was fun but kind of a disappointing season; the reunion is next week, though. Stick on AppleTV is back, which I really like, and yesterday I caught up on Abbott Elementary and Scrubs. I also finished this season of Youth, which was pretty good, and started a show called Phony, on Hulu, which is interesting. I also did NOT know that Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage is back with a new season - I swear CBS/Paramount+ does not advertise that show—so I got to binge a few episodes of that. War on HBO has also been good, and I'm hoping Elsbeth has a new episode today, because last week it did not.

The Friday Five, 4/24/26: 5 things I've been up to this week

The past week was pretty busy, because my husband and Baby K and I went to Indiana on Thursday, and then he and I were in Louisville from Friday through Monday with my sister-in-law (Baby K stayed with my in-laws).  Boudin balls at North of Bourbon, Louisville What I've been up to this week: Having good food . We kicked off the trip with dinner at North of Bourbon, one of my favorites—this is my third trip to Louisville (Nov. 2024 and Dec. 2025 were the others) and it's a very tasty restaurant. We always get the boudin balls (with pork, see pic above) and this time I split the chicken gumbo and a mushroom risotto-type dish with my SIL.  On Saturday, we ended up going to a food hall close to Rabbit Hole distillery (more on that below), and had some tapas-type items, like empanadas, which was good, and we also had really good charcuterie at the Garden and Gun Club, at Stitzel-Weller (see below) plus had good Italian food at Volare, which we had been to last December. Trip Review: Bavarian Inn Lodge, Frankenmuth, MI

*Disclosure: I received a free one-night stay at Bavarian Inn Lodge in exchange for this review. The opinions expressed here, however, are my own. This past Friday, I had the pleasure of staying at the Bavarian Inn Lodge , in Frankenmuth, Michigan, for one night. I've been to Frankenmuth many times, and even stayed overnight in the neighboring Birch Run, but I had never stayed directly in the city before, so I was excited to stay at the Lodge. Friday was a rainy day, but we didn't let that stop us from having fun. We stopped at Halo Burger, in Birch Run, for lunch—there used to be locations in Novi and Troy, but both closed, and their food is very good—and then hit up Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, which is the largest Christmas store in the world.  For those who are unfamiliar with Frankenmuth , it is a German/Bavaria-themed town, about an hour north of the Metro Detroit area, nicknamed "Michigan's Little Bavaria." The Friday Five, 3/27/26: 5 things I've been up to this week

Well this week flew by, and it's suddenly the end of March! Today will be busy because I am both dropping off and picking up Baby K at daycare, and I also have PT at 9am ... I usually have it on Wednesdays but had to move it this week.  Rana "Marry Me" pasta from Costco What I've been up to this week: Working in the office . The last time I worked at my company's office (in Birmingham) was in July, because Baby K came early in August; I was on maternity leave until early November; my company then said I could come back in for February, but Baby K was sick the day I had signed up for; and lo and behold, it's now March. We have an office dog, and he was there yesterday (a bulldog), so that was fun, and I also got to go to La Pecora Nera for lunch—they have deli sandwiches, and last time I was there (just to get a cannoli), I was pregnant, so I couldn't have deli meat.
