The Friday Five, 7/19/24: 5 things I've been up to this week

This has been a super long week, so I'm glad it's Friday. Unfortunately, I have my Crohn's infusion tomorrow, so I still have to be up early, but I can take a nap afterwards.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Tigers game at Comerica Park. I actually got tickets for this through work—HI-CHEW, a candy brand, had a few activations (promotions) going on and asked if I would be able to attend. Our seats were great; it was a very hot day, so we did spend a lot of time in the concourse too. HI-CHEW was super generous and gave us some "Tigers fun money," as the tickets said, so we were able to get free concessions, and were able to ride the Ferris wheel and merry-go-round an unlimited amount of times, too, although we unfortunately only made it to the merry-go-round. The Tigers ended up winning in (overtime? 10th inning) over the LA Dodgers. This was only my second time EVER at Comerica (first time was in 2014 I think, for a game!) so it was a lot of fun.
  2. Baby shower. I have a friend who I met 10+ years ago at movie screenings, and we've kept in touch. She started a group chat with herself, me, and two friends that enjoy TV/movies, a few years ago, and the two other friends live in Ohio and Texas, so we've never met. The Ohio friend is having a baby in September, so I finally got to meet her, as my initial friend hosted a baby shower for her in Waterford! I think this was only the 3rd or 4th baby shower I've ever been to, too. It was nice to meet my Ohio friend IRL and also see my Michigan friend too, as it's been a while.
  3. Going out to eat/getting takeout. On Friday night, we met some of my friends at The Lodge, in Keego Harbor, which I've been to but not for a while. My meal was okay (except the fried Oreos; those were phenomenal!) but I think maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. On Saturday, we got food at the ballpark—they have a lot of local places there now too, i.e. we got some truffle fries at the Green Dot Stables kiosk and I saw they had Yum Village and other places too—and Saturday night, we went to Texas Roadhouse in Novi. On Sunday, my parents and I got Hungry Howie's takeout, per usual, and on Monday, I met a friend at Taste of Ethiopia, in Southfield, a new-to-me restaurant, for Ethiopian food (see pic below), which was very good. Last night, I got Noori takeout, in Clawson, one of my favorite Korean fried chicken places, and I still have half for lunch today too. They're a little pricey; a box of eight (HUGE, boneless) pieces of chicken is $16, so I usually do the combo for $12.99 (four pieces of chicken, your choice of side—I get the fries or potstickers, which are +$1 upcharge—and a soft drink can). However, they are delicious.
  4. Seeing movies. I saw Despicable Me 4 last Saturday night at Emagine Novi, in EMAX (their version of IMAX), which was fun. Unfortunately I have to say it's my least favorite in the series, of which I am a big fan of overall—I'd give it 3/5. There are definitely some fun Minions scenes though. I rewatched the original Twister yesterday, on Max, before seeing the new one, and I'd give that one 4.5/5, and the new one (Twisters), 4/5; it's a fun popcorn movie, with some great performances, but it's not one I'll be thinking about too much today.
  5. Watching TV shows. I binged My Lady Jane on Prime after hearing about it on Instagram this week, and it was a lot of fun—similar to Bridgerton, but the narrator is more sarcastic, and the music was pop-punk and great. Unprisoned (fun show, but terrible show name) is back on Hulu for season two, also, and I watched one episode yesterday. I still need to catch up on this week's Presumed Innocent (AppleTV), but Too Hot to Handle is on Netflix today too (new season). My fiance and I also started watching Sunny together, on AppleTV, and it's a weird show but good; Rashida Jones stars in it, and it's partially in English and partially in Japanese. It's an A24 show, which tells you something if you are a fan of that studio.
